Lee Miller, Picnic, Île Sainte-Marguerite, Cannes, France, 1937

Happy International Picnic Day! An excellent excuse to shake out your blankets, dust off your wicker baskets, and stock up on sandwich fillings. This joyful (and ever so slightly steamy) set-up took place in Cannes on the Île Sainte-Marguerite, where American photographer Lee Miller enjoyed a seemingly serene picnic with Nusch Eluard, Paul Eluard, Roland Penrose, Man Ray and Ady Fidelin (all pictured), featuring bread, wine and topless sunbathing galore.
