Liu Di, Animal Regulation II No. 9, 2016

Wednesday wallowing… Chinese artist and photographer Liu Di uses his practice to challenge the “conflicting relationship between nature and human society”. His Animal Regulation series features a number of giant animals and humans superimposed onto various urban landscapes to surreal, sci-fi-esque effect. His focus on abnormal growth—represented quite literally in Animal Regulation with a cartoonish sense of satire—explores the phenomenon as “an inevitable byproduct of hyper-fast economies fuelled by widespread urbanisation” (China Underground).
