This still is taken from Real…Times, a vital film by the London-based, Ghanaian-Russian photographer Liz Johnson Artur, which premiered at the tenth Berlin Biennale in 2018. Johnson Artur has spent the past thirty years documenting individuals and communities across the African diaspora for her ongoing project The Black Balloon Archive. This work, made at the height of the UK’s Windrush scandal, homes in specifically on London, interlacing narratives from the capital’s African diaspora—from Black Lives Matter activist rallies to sequences from black female collective, Born N Bread’s radio show—to stirring effect.
