Women’s Equality Day is celebrated today in the United States, as they commemorate women gaining the right to vote (this was just the beginning, as many groups still fought for voting rights). Today we are looking to Loie Hollowell for her unabashed celebration of the female form, mixing brazen sexuality with abstraction, surrealism and sacred iconography. Hollowell’s pastel-hued paintings are reminiscent of Georgia O’Keeffe, Judy Chicago and Agnes Martin, and a fitting tribute to all the great women who have fought to have their voice heard over the years. The artist’s show at Pace London opens on Tuesday.
