A beautiful painting by the lauded Ukrainian artist Maria Primachenko. Born in the village of Bolotnya, Primachenko taught herself to paint, draw and embroider. Her vibrant style of folk art conveyed both her love of nature and her fantastical imagination. “Once, as a young girl, I was tending a gaggle of geese. When I got with them to a sandy beach … after crossing a field dotted with wild flowers, I began to draw real and imaginary flowers with a stick on the sand,” the artist once recalled. “Later, I decided to paint the walls of my house using natural pigments. After that I’ve never stopped drawing and painting.” Tragically, a number of Primachenko’s works are said to have been destroyed as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Ukraine.
