A glorious greenhouse by the Santiago-based architect Max Núñez. Located in the mountainous municipality of Pirque in Chile, the greenhouse was built to enliven the garden of one of Núñez’s private clients. Steel forms the framing for the structure’s lower glass box and dramatic upper vaulting made from glass bricks. The result is deliberately lofty: “I wanted everything to feel lightweight, so that when you’re inside, you don’t perceive it as a very heavy structure,” Núñez told Architectural Record. “Rather, the idea is that the plants support the roof.” And, particularly when lit up at dusk and reflected in the garden’s nearby pond, the effect from the outside is no less magical.
