One for the fibbers… The Two Faced Tablet is a sculpture by American artist and filmmaker, Miranda July, pictured here at her 2010 exhibition, Eleven Heavy Things, in New York. All the sculptures on display “relied on human interaction in order to be activated”, in the words of Holly Black in her interview with July for Elephant Issue 35, “[incorporating] specific messages that invited onlookers to embody them through basic actions, such as sticking a finger through a hole or standing on a plinth.” In this case, visitors could demonstrate their best poker face, before displaying “what I look like when I really mean it” on the other side.
