Nevine Mahmoud, Bottom Tear, 2019

We are big fans of Nevine Mahmoud, whose cheeky blue doughnut graced the cover of our spring 2018 issue. Now she’s showing at Soft Opening on London’s Herald Street, with a selection of suggestive wall- and floor-based sculptures. The erotic side of this work is subtle on first look (depending on the angle you approach it from) until the fine, rounded crack reveals itself. The choice of materials is especially exciting in this exhibition, with blue-toned marbles and fleshy transparent glass. The large windows in the space provide a wonderful viewing experience, where works become slashed with natural light, creating watery colourful shows behind them.
