Artist Nick Lobo grew up in Miami, where he was no doubt exposed to the American cult of self-care and pampering early on, from nail salons to high-end spas. All of those constructed environments for wellbeing have served as sources for his latest project, Wellness Center, installed at Mike Kelley’s Homestead at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, open to the public from 10 May. Lobo has built a sauna and shower inside Kelley’s homestead, and hanging on the walls are these prints, made using colourful hydrogel face masks.
