Olafur Eliasson, that experimental employer of elemental materials, takes his preoccupation with nature to new heights for his current installation, Life, at Fondation Beyeler in Basel. In an endeavour to “consider life not from a human-centric perspective but from a broad, biocentric perspective”, the renowned Danish-Icelandic artist has flooded the Renzo Piano-designed structure’s outdoor pond, allowing the water to flow into the museum itself and removing the building’s glass windows for the purpose. The piece is open to visitors, pond life and other living organisms day and night, until July.
