There’s something compelling about this everyday scene shot by Mexican photographer Paola Ismene, entitled Daydream in Blue, even if we can’t quite put our finger on what it is. Her image was recently announced as the winner of Saatchi Gallery’s #SelfExpression competition, which invited images shot on a smartphone that expressed “what they find beautiful, interesting or noteworthy”. Ismene describers her work as constructing “narratives that negotiate the interaction between the real and the imaginary in pursuit of a collective identity.” She adds, “My work serves as a reminder of what unifies us as human beings: as complex individuals, connected by the same emotions and inhabitants of the same physical plane.”
