Paola Pivi, We Are the Baby Gang, 2019

A snapshot of the Elephant team celebrating the arrival of our latest issue. OK, not really: it’s an ursine installation by Italian artist Paola Pivi, titled We Are the Baby Gang, and features in an article by Louise Benson exploring the burgeoning artistic cult of the teddy bear. Pivi’s work stars playful polar bears (animals native to her Alaska home), covered in brightly coloured feathers which, she says, “make these scary animals approachable, in a similar way to the teddy bear icon”.
