Peder Vilhelm Jensen Klint, Grundtvigs Kirke, 1921-1940

Sunday serenity, as embodied by the majestic interior of Grundtvigs Kirke, Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint’s awe-inspiring church just, located outside Copenhagen. Built between 1921 and 1941, the building is a monument to the Danish pastor, philosopher, author and politician, Nikolaj Frederik Severin Grundtvig. The form was influenced by Grundtvig’s humanist interpretation of Christianity, according to Architectural Digest, and “merged the scale and stylings of a Gothic cathedral” (the soaring pointed arches) with the “aesthetics of a Danish country church” (its traditional, handmade yellow brick).
