Looking for a great read? We recommend Charlotte Jansen’s brilliant book, Girl on Girl: Art and Photography in the Age of the Female Gaze. Highlighting the work of forty artists, the publication looks at “how young women are using photography and the internet to explore issues of self-image and female identity”. Included is Pinar Yolaçan, the author of this stirring image, taken from her 2011 series Like A Stone. For this, the Turkish artist employed a number of SSBBW models (the online fetish acronym for Supersized, Big, Beautiful Women), whose bodies she sculpted with latex and paint, before shooting them against block-colour backdrops to look like museum postcards of classical sculptures.
