Polly Nor, Learned How to Hide My Crazy, But It Got Loose, 2016

A very real Monday mood by London-based illustrator Polly Nor, who devotes herself, for the most part, to drawing “women and their demons”. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is a case of good versus evil, however. As the artist explained to Kate Hollowood in a 2019 feature on her work (and that of fellow demon-depicter Hulda Guzman) for Elephant, “My female characters are not innately ‘innocent’ and the demons aren’t innately ‘evil’…. They are often a representation of her frustrations, anxieties, insecurities and desires.” And this excellent depiction of a particularly debilitating demon sums up our start-of-the-week slowness perfectly.
