The docufictional series, which was first published as a photobook in 2020, “plunges readers into the world of female Maoist guerrillas in the forests of central India”, Nicole Acheampong writes in her interview with the Indian transmedia artist, photographer and activist for Elephant’s latest issue. “Regardless of medium, Basu wants all her work to move like a slow film, ‘immersive, visceral’, mapped by a distinct measure of time,” Acheampong continues, reflecting on the project’s remarkably cinematographic imagery, and its ten-year time span.
