Ray Kappe, Borghei-Cookston House, Santa Monica, 1977-84

What would your dream bedroom look like? We’d be thrilled with this light-filled haven by the American modernist architect and SCI-Arc founder Ray Kappe, overlooking a lush hillside in Santa Monica, California. It is the master bedroom of the Borghei-Cookston House, realised between 1977 and 1984. A majestic structure in concrete, glass and steel, the home offers a sci-fi take on brutalism, all curving walls, jutting balconies and lofty inter-connected spaces.
