The ideal spot for weekend lounging, this elegant sitting room is the work of late California modernist Ray Kappe. It forms part of Kappe’s own home in the Pacific Palisades, built in 1967, and embodies the West Coast modernist fondness for open-plan design, indoor-outdoor living and rectilinear forms. It boasts huge windows to let in natural light and a view of the vegetation beyond, while inside is all geometric woodwork and spacious seating areas, designed and crafted by Kappe himself, using leftover timber from the house’s construction. Nifty.
