My studio practice uses painting as a means to explore how objects act as crossing points for successive layers of cultural narrative and history. These paintings and textile works owe much to the historic Dutch still life genre, in which the mundane is elevated through painting. Previous series of work have focussed on artefacts including suits of armour and the customised ‘battle jackets’ made by heavy metal fans.

I will develop a series experimental paintings constructed from canvas, denim and other fabrics. These will be worked with fluorescent pigments in acrylic medium as a way of creating grounds for printed and painted images. Accompanying works will feature representational ‘copies’ of the textile works as a visual ‘call and response’.
