Richard Bernstein, Marisa Berenson, 1976

Many people presumed that the painted covers of Interview magazine were created by Warhol himself—they were in fact painted by his “favourite artist”, Richard Bernstein, whose above cover was produced for the first issue of Interview in a tabloid format in January 1976. The piece is on show at Jeffrey Deitch in New York, in a solo exhibition of works by the artist, many of which feature famous actresses for the covers of Warhol’s renowned (and recently closed) magazine. Richard Bernstein: Fame opens to the public this Friday.
