Richard Serra, Te Tuhirangi Contour, 1999-2001

Three llamas at New Zealand sculpture park Gibbs Farm admire Te Tuhirangi Contour, a vast sculpture by the American artist Richard Serra, made from 56 rust-covered steel plates. These “lean out by 11 degrees from the vertical”, explains the park’s website, “and trace a single contour line across the land in a way that, in the artist’s words, ‘collects the volume of the land'”. The resulting vista—a combination of complementary curves and colours—is, indeed, one worth marvelling over.
