The village of Tiébélé in Burkina Faso—captured here by photographer Rita Willaert—is an extraordinary village filled with exquisitely decorated earthen architecture. “The complex serves as the official residence of the pè, or community chief,” explains the World Monuments Fund, which was called upon to support the ongoing preservation of the so-called Cour Royale de Tiébélé in 2012. “Resplendent designs in black and white… reflect the building traditions of the Kassena people who first settled Burkina Faso in the 15h century.” The result is an incredible fusion of art and architecture that is well worth a Google for some Sunday stimulation.
