One of our top picks is the pastelly, kaleidoscopic work of Robert Lostutter, showing at The Approach in Bethnal Green in partnership with the brilliantly named US gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey. Lostutter is included in a group of Chicago Imagists—currently gaining a high profile in the art world, their bold colours and playful tone chiming with a contemporary audience. Also showing are Babara Rossi and Karl Wirsum. All the works come from the 1970s, described by the gallery as a “prime time for Chicago Imagism, its irreverent young artists drawing on Surrealism, vernacular art, and abstraction for their idiosyncratic new version of figurative art”.
