If you’ve seen Wes Anderson’s latest film, The French Dispatch, you’ll be familiar with the amazing artworks of the elusive incarcerated artist Moses Rosenthaler (played by Benicio Del Toro). In reality, these were the creation of German artist Sandro Kopp, who was enlisted by Anderson for the purpose. In a new feature for Elephant, Megan Williams speaks with Kopp, alongside Chicago-based artist Sherwin Ovid, whose work stars in the new Candyman, and French artist Hélène Delmaire, maker of the artworks for Portraits of a Lady on Fire, to discover more about their experiences of conjuring up paintings for the big screen.
