Sara Anstis, Lupin, 2021

A dose of Monday malaise, courtesy of Swedish-Canadian artist Sara Anstis, known for her strange, surreal, sensual depictions of nude women lounging outdoors, rendered in paint or pastel. In this recent work, shown by Fabian Lang at this year’s edition of The Armory Show, one such curvaceous figure appears to have conjured a makeshift hammock from a piece of cloth and a wounded, prong-footed canine, in whose blood she has dipped her feet. An uncanny modern myth for an uncanny modern world.
