Can mushrooms save the world? These fungal beings have a rich history in visual culture—a source of inspiration due to their unusual shapes, variegated patterning and occasional hallucinogenic effects. Now, a London show is being dedicated to them, bringing together the work of over forty artists and designers who explore all things shroomy. The show at Somerset House has been curated by Francesca Gavin and “celebrates the rich legacy and incredible potential of the remarkable organism, the ideas it inspires in the poetic, spiritual and psychedelic, and the powerful promise it offers to combat the human devastation of the planet”.
