The internal architecture of London’s Zabludowicz Collection has prompted numerous artist responses in recent years that have been visually punchy and theatrical. For the gallery’s current Shana Moulton commission, the back wall of the first space now houses an all-seeing “fountain”. The artist is featured in the current self-care themed issue of Elephant, and for this exhibition, her first solo institutional show in the UK, she brings together a mix of works spanning video and installation. “They are linked by an exploration of feminist spirituality, specifically the motif of the trapped or imprisoned woman,” says the collection. “Ideas central to today’s cultural debate, such as the personal wellness industry, ecological protest and alternative models of livings, are addressed with off-kilter humour and a strange sincerity.”
