Football, milk, cow print and possibly Oz’s Wicked Witch of the East all combine in this complex tableaux from Iranian-American multimedia artist Sheida Soleimani. The image is part of her new show at London’s Edel Assanti entitled Medium of Exchange; a body of work combining photography with a film piece. The photographs show reimagined interplays between OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) oil ministers and the Western government. Those featured in Soleimani’s works are queer actors chosen to show a diverse range of races, genders and body types; deliberately portraying a very different aesthetic to the faces of the men they’re portraying through masks and props. The exhibition runs until 21 December 2018.
