Shirazeh Houshiary, East Window, 2013

A warped Wednesday scene by the Iranian, London-based sculptor, installation artist, and painter Shirazeh Houshiary. The delightfully distorted glass and stainless steel triptych enlivens the window of St Martin-in-the-Fields church in Trafalgar Square, and was unveiled in 2013. The permanent installation is intended to evoke the symbol of the cross as if reflected in water, while its central eclipse represents “an icon of contemplation”, an accompanying press release elaborated. And the effect is undoubtedly mesmerising.
