Shirin Abedinirad, House in the Wind, 2018

Some end-of-the-week escapism, courtesy of the Iranian artist Shirin Abedinirad. This mirrored portal formed part of Abedinirad’s 2018 installation House in the Wind, which saw her create a dwelling in the middle of the Moroccan desert, replete with windows, doors, a gramophone, television and bird cage, but no ceilings or walls of any sort. Multiple mirrored surfaces, like this one in the doorway, were employed to heighten the effect of the location’s breathtaking scenery. “My studio in desert does not have a roof or borders,” Abedinirad explained. “I can always watch sky, clouds, sun, moon and stars. I have a door, which is open to anyone in the world.”
