As we launch our birth-themed issue, a London gallery prepares to open Universal Motherhood, “a journey through the lottery of birth”, which has been created by Save the Children in partnership with GSK. The show at One Paved Court brings together the work of five photographers who have visited maternity units around the world to capture intimate moments of mothers pre-, during and post-birth. This image by Sian Davey shows a tender moment between London couple Ellen and Andy, during her labour. The mother later told the photographer: “She came out purple and not breathing. They took her off to the corner to resuscitate her. She came back pink and breathing and crying and wonderful.”
