Brutalism meets Medieval ruins at the entrance to the Castelgrande, one of three historic castles on the Alpine foothills of Bellinzona in Switzerland. In the 1980s, the Swiss architect Aurelio Galfetti was invited to create this brutalist intervention as part of a larger revitalisation of the 13th-century stone castle. The imposing, bunker-like gateway is one of Galfetti’s most celebrated achievements, proving as awe-inspiring as the UNESCO World Heritage site it guards—as evidenced in this captivating shot by Italian architectural photographer Simone Bossi.
