Tomorrow marks the opening of a new exhibition by Iranian artist Soheila Sokhanvari, commissioned by the Barbican for its gallery, The Curve. Titled Rebel Rebel, the show is made up of a series of 27 intimate portraits of feminist icons from pre-revolutionary Iran. Each rendered in Sokhanvari’s wonderfully graphic style, and replete with identifying objects or brightly coloured outfits, the show serves to transform The Curve into “a devotional space in which these rarely told feminist histories can be contemplated”. This picture depicts the poet and filmmaker Forough Farrokhzad, who died in a car crash aged just 32, and her beloved cat.
