Wishing you all a cosy, if not raucous, New Year’s Eve. Keeping everything crossed for a brighter 2021, and the chance to hit the dance floor once again. This show-stopping scene was taken at the legendary New York nightclub Studio 54 in the late seventies, during a ballet featuring no less than thirty mopeds. Choreographed by Peter Jackson of the Blue Angels motorcycle club, it also involved a trapeze artist, elaborate headpieces, gold boots and very little clothing. The picture, by Sonia Moskowitz, is one of several similarly rousing shots taken in the club, and included in Ian Schrager’s 2018 book, Studio 54—our selected Book Review for Elephant Issue 33.
