This mesmerising creation may look like a 3D rendering but it is in fact a vast land art installation in the Sahara desert, realised by installation artist Danae Stratou, industrial designer Alexandra Stratou, and architect Stella Constantinides. Created over the course of two years in the late 1990s, it covers an area of around one million square feet and is made up of two lines of convex and concave sand carvings, which circle with breathtaking mathematical precision towards a large pool of water at the artwork’s centre. Although it was designed to merge back into the landscape over time, its remains can still be seen, today both in person and on Google Earth.
