The paintings of American artist Sue Williams sit halfway between abstraction and figuration, with partly recognizable forms bleeding off into vibrantly coloured lines and shapes. Her latest body of work is included in a show at Skarstedt gallery in London, which opens today, and explores politics and gender roles, as well as ideas of memory and personal experience. “Everything gets integrated into the art,” the artist has previously said, “not always consciously. [The paintings] become a refuge. If I have visibility, I have the responsibility to try and change things.”
