Sylvia Ballhause, Atrium Film Palast, Nuremberg, 2013

What’s the most aesthetically pleasing cinema you’ve ever been to? The Atrium Film Palast in Nuremberg is surely one of the most striking, although—much to the dismay of film buffs and velvet aficionados everywhere—the gloriously green space closed its doors in 2008. Before it was transformed into a bar, the photographer Sylvia Ballhause committed its plush interior to film as part of her sumptuous series celebrating Germany’s many amazing movie theatres. Here’s hoping that one day it will be restored to its former glory.
