“You’re hot af for an Indian Girl”—the title of this deftly crafted work by Talia Ramkilawan says it all. The ascendant South African artist uses a variety of media, from performance and installation through tapestry and carpet making techniques, to “address her own lived experience with South Asian identity, culture and trauma”—and the results are intimate and powerful in equal measure. This piece, and other textile works by Ramkilawan, are currently on display as part of Unit London’s group exhibition, The Medium is the Message, on display until 14 November.
