Would ya look at those eyes… This captivating image is a pleasing combination of two Terences: Terence Donavan, the photographer whose sublime, artfully cropped images captured the stars of 1960s London; and Terence Stamp, actor and one of the definitive figures in what made London just so “swinging” during that decade. The image, a contact sheet shot by Donavan on the set of John Schlesinger’s Far From the Madding Crowd, is currently on show in an exhibition dedicated to the photographer’s work at Huxley-Parlour Gallery in London entitled Terence Donovan: The 1960s Vintage Prints from the Archives, which runs until 27 July. More than thirty images are on show, including those featuring the likes of Sophia Loren, Julie Christie and Celia Hammond; all bearing a witty and delicate approach to portrait with a touch of film nit-like mystique.
