Terunobu Fujimori, Tea House, Kanagawa, 2003

The dream midweek hideaway, designed by tea house maestro Terunobu Fujimori. The acclaimed Japanese architect’s work is defined by a playful quirkiness and the use of natural materials. Both elements are at play in this sweet design for a small, stilted tea house, situated in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture and built in 2003. The structure’s spindly legs are made from tree trunks, the roof and giant chimney from slate, while the house’s higgledy-piggledy appearance lends it a fairy tale-esque quality.
