French performance artist Thierry Mandon creates poetic pieces that teeter on the boundary between tragedy and comedy. And in the case of this 2015 work, Inside-Out, teeter is the operative word. The performance found Mandon lying in bed, suspended precariously on the outer wall of a terraced house, one storey from the ground, a bedside table perched neatly behind him. “Passersby were very surprised, not knowing very well if what they were seeing was real [or] … an artistic performance,” the artist told My Modern Met of the playful piece, which was captured on camera, and video camera, for posterity.
