Tim Walker, Panna Cotta, 2010

A prickly pudding by Tim Walker. Best known for his vibrant, frequently surreal fashion imagery the British photographer’s sumptuous vision “can be both sugary and menacing in equal measure”, writes Emily Steer in her interview with Walker for Elephant 41. This is perfectly encapsulated in this fantastical feasting arrangement—a rosehip and borrage flower set in jelly, dreamed up by art director Rhea Thierstein—which looks as dreamy as it does dangerous, thanks to its close resemblance to a rose. Indeed, suggestions of mortality are frequently and deliberately at play within Walker’s work. “I am hypersensitive about mortality because I am forever freezing time,” he tells Steer, “I feel I am constantly with death.” Purchase Issue 41 at Elephant Kiosk now to read on.
