Weekend reading: An excellent new book from curator, architect and writer Todd Reiszbook “excavates an untold Dubai through unpublished photographic vignettes from the 1970s”, in the words of Farah Abdessamad for Elephant. Comprising some 100 photographs, Off Centre/On Stage is “a time capsule of bulldozed, forgotten realities, the everyday of a city’s past crushed by a determined future”. While imbued with the saturated hues of the period—as evidenced in this picture of a pristinely kept, plant-filled swimming pool—the compelling images “also convey the shadow of modern development and transport the reader in a spatial voyage through overlooked before-times”.
