Expect false floors, secret doors and body parts poking out from behind curtains at Tom Lovelace’s theatrical new exhibition, Interval, at Flowers Gallery, that considers the place where photography, performance and sculpture meet, a question that has irked many artists working between disciplines, but that not many have conceptualised it so dynamically. He’s turning the Kingsland Road space into a stage of his own, inspired by Poor Theatre—a concept proposed by the Polish director, Jerzy Grotowski, who suggested a minimal approach to theatre. In the context of today’s politics, where all you need is a toupee and a suit to get the world’s attention, this show could hardly be more timely.
