This beguiling installation in the Nevada desert was dreamed up by the Swiss-born, New York-based artist Ugo Rondinone. Commissioned by the Nevada Museum of Art and Art Production Fund, it comprises seven towers of stacked, multicoloured boulders, each tower standing more than thirty-feet high—a poetic sight against the equally striking backdrop of the Ivanpah Valley. The eye-catching cairns, aptly titled Seven Magic Mountains, currently have a permit to remain in place until 2021, but here’s hoping that officials opt to let them stay for good.
