Walter Carone, Henri Matisse in his Studio in Nice, 1950

Some Sunday snipping inspiration from the late, great Henri Matisse—here seen working on a cut-out mural in his Nice studio in 1950, aided by one of his assistants. In the final decade of his life, the ailing but eternally creative artist reduced his material palette to white paper and gouache alone, thereafter transforming the coloured sheets into a graphic array of plants, animals, figures and shapes, using just a pair of scissors (and the occasional extra pair of hands).
