Yayoi Kusama, KUSAMA Fashion Show, New York, 1968

Did you know that Yayoi Kusama once had her own fashion line called KUSAMA? Well she did, in the late 1960s, and the queen of dots remained just as circle centric in her clothing designs as she was in other media. Some garments boasted polkadot patterns, while other items were uniquely holey (in a decidedly non-Biblical sense). As evidenced here, in this shot of Kusama preparing for a fashion show in her New York boutique in 1968, these round openings were strategically placed to reveal the wearer’s chest, stomach, genitalia or knee.
