One for the introverts, this work forms part of a series of actions or “ações” performed and documented by the Brazilian artist Yuri Firmeza in the mid 2010s. In each, a nude Firmeza inserts himself into an everyday environment—in this case a dilapidated yellow wall, which he has climbed with a ladder before removing just enough bricks to encase his crouching form. “The human body is always subject to examination, to critical thinking [in my work]” Firmenza has said. “And I often employ architectural elements in a state of ruin [as a means of exploring the] relationship between body and space.”
