In need of a good Sunday read ahead of International Women’s Day? We’ve got just the ticket. In a recent profile for Elephant, Charlotte Jansen met the image-maker Yushi Li, a self-described “Chinese woman who takes photographs of naked Western men”. Most of Li’s subjects are Caucasian, they are often photographed en masse (although this disrobed dauber is an exception), and they’re always captured in a state of undress. The photographer also includes herself within the images, clothes firmly in place, to subvert the frequent “exoticisation and eroticisation of Asian women” by Western men—with powerful, tongue-in-cheek results.
