Amy Gwatkin, Smoking Bum, 2016

London-based photographer and filmmaker Amy Gwatkin is currently exhibiting a new film at Mimosa House—in collaboration with artist Zoe Williams, who was interviewed by Elephant last week. Titled Sunday Fantasy, the exhibition explores the imaginative potential of desire through a feminist lens, and features a fair few bum cheeks and more. In this image, originally taken by Gwatkin for lingerie brand Isosceles, an anonymous bum takes on an uncanny new role as it appears to puff on a cigarette in a playful double-take. Upending expectations, it is as humorous as it is surreal.
